My first cycling hoody

"Lovely light material makes for a slipstream kind of fit. The hoody feature can make your helmet tighter is one issue, but my ears stayed warm. You may still need a scarf as your neck is widely exposed once the hood is up tight. Def carry a gaiter for your winter rides"

Q&A

Questions & Answers

Yes. The Soleil Bike Hoody was designed with a helmet-friendly hood that has a ponytail opening, so it's built to be worn under a helmet on the bike, not just pulled up for casual street wear. That's the key distinction for cycling: the hood is cut to fit against your head beneath a helmet, adding neck and head sun coverage while you ride. If you want full arm and head protection from UPF without compromising helmet fit, the Soleil Bike Hoody is made for exactly that.

The Soleil Bike Hoody uses the same 88% recycled micropoly and 12% spandex fabric as the rest of Terry's Soleil collection, rated UPF 50+. That means full-arm coverage with meaningful sun protection for warm-weather riders who want to stay covered without overheating, since the fabric is lightweight, moisture-wicking, and antimicrobial. The addition of the hood extends that UPF 50+ protection to your neck and head, which is useful for riders logging hours in direct sun who want coverage beyond what a standard long sleeve top offers.

The Soleil Bike Hoody suits sun-conscious riders who want full-arm UPF 50+ coverage plus the extra head and neck protection a hood provides. It works especially well for women who want one top that crosses over between cycling and other activities, since it's designed for life on or off the bike and performs well as a multi-sport top. If you value storage on the move, the Soleil Bike Hoody also includes a front pouch and a rear zip pocket. It's a strong choice for warm-weather sun coverage, not cold-weather insulation.

Yes. The Soleil Bike Hoody is designed for life on or off the bike, and Terry built it to perform even better as a multi-sport top. The hood works under a helmet while riding and reads naturally on the street, and the top layers comfortably under vests and outerwear. For women who want one versatile UPF 50+ piece that moves between a ride, a hike, and everyday wear, the Soleil Bike Hoody earns its place by covering more than a single use case.

If most of your riding calls for full-arm UPF coverage but you'd rather skip a hood and the extra fabric around the neck, the Soleil Long Sleeve Bike Top or the Sunblocker Bike Jersey are better fits. Both deliver sun-blocking arm coverage without the head and neck layer the Soleil Bike Hoody adds. Choose the Soleil Bike Hoody specifically when you want that extra head and neck protection under your helmet; choose one of the hoodless options when you want the lightest, simplest sun-protection top.

The Soleil Bike Hoody is built for warm-weather sun protection, not cold-weather warmth. Its lightweight, moisture-wicking Soleil fabric is designed to keep you cool and covered in the sun, so it won't insulate you on chilly rides. If you're riding in cool or cold conditions, a Merino Bike Jersey handles temperature regulation across changing weather, while a Thermal Bike Jersey or Corso Thermal Bike Jersey provides true insulation for sub-50-degree riding. Reach for the Soleil Bike Hoody when sun, not cold, is what you're dressing for.

The Soleil Bike Hoody has a more tapered, semi-fitted cut than the standard Soleil tops, so it sits closer to the body without being compressive. Terry finished it with elastic-free sleeves and hemline for a more comfortable fit, avoiding the pinch some riders dislike at the cuffs and hem. The hood includes a ponytail opening so it layers cleanly under a helmet. If you prefer a trimmer silhouette that still moves well on and off the bike, the Soleil Bike Hoody's semi-fitted shape should suit you.

Yes. The Soleil Bike Hoody includes a front pouch and a rear zip pocket, so you can carry essentials whether you're riding or using it as a multi-sport top. The rear zip pocket keeps small valuables secure during movement, while the front pouch offers quick-access storage. For riders who want sun protection and practical carry in one layer that works on and off the bike, the Soleil Bike Hoody covers both without needing a separate bag for short outings.

If you don't want a hood or any added fabric around the neck, the Soleil Bike Hoody may be more than you need. Riders who want the lightest, simplest sun-protection top tend to prefer the Soleil Long Sleeve Bike Top, which delivers the same UPF 50+ Soleil fabric and full-arm coverage without the hood. The Soleil Bike Hoody makes sense when the hood is the point: extra head and neck protection under a helmet and seamless crossover to off-bike wear are what justify the added coverage.
