Description
Our goal with the Long Haul was to design a lightweight performance-level short that would be up for the challenge of centuries, high heat situations, international touring and gravel riding. We started from the inside out with an upgraded Flex Air Max Chamois which has an additional dual density layer of padding for more comfort without bulk. A combination of high compression fabrics and longer inseam length reduces muscle fatigue but the lightness of the overall short makes them incredibly comfortable. Minimally constructed front waist panels and laser cut leg openings held in place with a stitchless, silicone-free 10mm gripper provide a friction-free experience. Nicely integrated smartphone pocket with bonded edge; made in the USA of imported fabrics.

Proudly designed and sewn in the USA at a green energy-certified facility, supporting local jobs and the highest standards in quality and fit.

NOTE: This short is running small, particularly in the waist. We recommend ordering up one full size for best fit.

Chamois
Flex Air Max Chamois:
The Flex Air Max was developed to provide an extra level of comfort by adding two additional foam layers in key positions on the chamois surface. This multi-density approach is combined with Terry’s innovative shaping and soft wing technology. Seamless chamois with 4-way stretch Elastic Interface Technology provides freedom of movement on the saddle; multi-density foam padding is perforated for increased breathability; light, channeled microfiber fabric in Terry pink is antimicrobial and enhances moisture transfer; soft wing construction reduces bulk at inner thigh to avoid chafing. Made in Italy.

fit notes
This short is running small, particularly in the waist. We recommend ordering up one full size for best fit.

product care
Remove your shorts and launder asap for best results as residual sweat may damage the chamois. Wash only in delicate cycle at 86 degrees. Use neutral non-aggressive detergents, keep like colors together and avoid dryers. If you use chamois butter/cream, your garment's ability to wick moisture will be greatly reduced and the durability of your chamois may be compromised. Note: we recommend that you wash new bottoms prior to use.

Reviews

Perfection!

"So comfortable & I love the length in the legs to keep my thigh muscles a little warmer. The waist is just a touch big in the back but I don't mind it a bit. I'm 5'1" & 115 lbs & I have a large waist ~28" & am happy with small!"

Flex Air Max Chamois for the Win

"The Flex Air Max cushion in the Long Haul seems to be the answer to my discomfort on 30-70 mile road rides (3-6 hours). I also tried the Grand Touring but didn't find them as comfortable. I'm 5'6", about 150 lbs. , and ordered Large which fit well. I tried the XL first (reviews said to size up for compression) but found the gap in the rear waistband to be annoying. I was worried about no padding on the edges of the chamois but it worked for me. My pain is in the crotch near the nose of the saddle, and that's where there's padding, along with the main seat area."

— Nancy W. (5/5)

I really like the fit

"I really like the fit of this short. Material is light and comfy. Chamois is great. Phone pocket is perfect"

— Celeste R. (5/5)

Long Haul Shorts -- Very Comfortable!

"I didn't think i would like the looser fit of the long haul shorts -- but they are terrific! Extremely comfortable and even though slightly looser, they don't ride up your leg. I'm going to order some more."

— Kirsten H. (5/5)

Long haul bike short

"I wanted a more padded chamois to prevent chafing. The long haul has solved the problem. And I’m back on my bike. Bonus: Movement is fluid without feeling tight and the fabric feels like skin."

— Teri B. (5/5)

Wrong for me!

"The waist is impossibly tight & uncomfortable. The fabric is too tightly woven & not comfortable for my 5’1” 100 pound frame. I ordered small, which is my usual."

— Margaret D. (1/5)

Feels too flimsy

"I have returned these shorts because there was very little to them. I’m sure they might be nice and very warm weather, but they didn’t feel like they would hold up"

— Stuart W. (2/5)

Long Haul Bike Shorts

"It was a gift & she loves them!"

— Marilyn T. (5/5)

Returned

"I ordered the correct size based on my measurements and other Terry shorts that I own. There was a huge gap on the waistband at my lower back while the rest of the shorts fit pretty normally. The leg gripper was stuck to itself when I received the shorts and it seemed like it could peel away from the fabric really easily. I used to appreciate the breathable flex air chamois that comes with Terry shorts but can’t sacrifice fit and quality for that, especially at this price."

— Miranda H. (1/5)

Best bike short ever!

"I have been buying Terry bike shorts for, well, I think since about they started! This short is the best of all their line, the chamois is all I could want for 30+ miles and the fabric is so light, not bulky like cheaper shorts! Love this one!"

Q&A

Questions & Answers

The Long Haul Bike Short is purpose-built for the longest rides Terry designs for — centuries, international touring, and multi-hour gravel days. It pairs high compression fabrics with a longer inseam to reduce muscle fatigue over extended saddle time, and uses Terry's Flex Air Max chamois, their most built-up padding. If your riding increasingly means all-day distances and you want maximum comfort without heavy bulk, the Long Haul Bike Short earns its place as a lightweight short tuned specifically for endurance.

Terry's own guidance is that the Long Haul Bike Short runs small, particularly in the waist, and recommends ordering up one full size for the best fit. This matters because the short relies on a high compression fit and high-rise waist to reduce fatigue over long rides — if the waist is too tight, that compression becomes uncomfortable rather than supportive. Riders between sizes, or anyone who prefers a less restrictive waistband, should size up when choosing the Long Haul Bike Short.

The Long Haul Bike Short uses Terry's Flex Air Max chamois, their most built-up option, with an additional dual-density foam layer in key positions for more comfort during long saddle time. It's a seamless chamois with 4-way stretch Elastic Interface Technology, perforated multi-density padding for breathability, and soft wing construction that reduces bulk at the inner thigh to avoid chafing. For riders spending hours in the saddle on centuries or touring days, this women's-specific chamois construction adds comfort without the heavy feel of a bulky pad.

The Long Haul Bike Short is explicitly designed to cover road centuries, multi-hour gravel riding, and international touring in a single short, rather than being tuned for one terrain. Its combination of high compression fabrics, longer inseam, and the heavily cushioned Flex Air Max chamois holds up across mixed conditions and high heat. For riders who want versatility across road and gravel without buying separate shorts for each, the Long Haul Bike Short is built to bridge those contexts.

Yes — the Long Haul Bike Short includes an integrated smartphone pocket with a bonded edge, positioned on the leg. For long touring days, gravel routes, and centuries where you're away from a car or stopping point for hours, having your phone secure and accessible on your short is genuinely useful. The bonded edge keeps the pocket low-profile so it doesn't add bulk or flap around, which matters on a short designed for all-day, lightweight comfort.

Terry designed the Long Haul Bike Short as a lightweight performance short despite the extra dual-density foam layer in its Flex Air Max chamois, so the added comfort doesn't come with added bulk. The multi-density padding is perforated for breathability, and soft wing construction reduces material at the inner thigh. The result is a short that delivers Terry's most cushioned chamois while staying light enough for high-heat rides — the cushioning works for you without weighing you down over long distances.

If most of your riding is short, casual, or fitness-focused, the Long Haul Bike Short's endurance-grade Flex Air Max chamois may offer more padding than you need. Riders who prefer minimal chamois bulk for quicker rides tend to be better served by the Chill 7 Bike Short, which delivers performance-level comfort in a lighter-feeling short. The Long Haul Bike Short earns its place when your rides stretch into centuries, long gravel days, or touring, where extended saddle comfort outweighs a minimal pad.

The Long Haul Bike Short is tuned for the longest single-day rides — centuries, high heat, and multi-hour gravel or touring days — with Terry's most cushioned Flex Air Max chamois. But if your riding means back-to-back days where you need maximum day-after-day support, the Touring Bike Short/Regular is built specifically for that multi-day endurance. Choose the Long Haul Bike Short when your challenge is one very long day; step up to the Touring Bike Short/Regular when it's many long days in a row.

The Long Haul Bike Short combines high compression fabrics with a longer inseam and a high-rise waist to reduce muscle fatigue over long days in the saddle. Compression supports your muscles as the miles add up, while the high-rise waist stays put without digging in during an endurance effort. Laser-cut leg openings with stitchless hypoallergenic grippers keep the short in place friction-free. For riders doing centuries or all-day touring, these details are what keep the Long Haul Bike Short comfortable hour after hour.
