Description
We chose the Espresso because it gives you a lot of the higher end features that Castelli's known for, but in a more comfortable package. First, it's a short, not a bib; second, it's outfitted with a Progetto X Air Seamless chamois with plenty of padding; third, it has raw-cut leg endings with integrated silicone grip inside so you don't get the sausage effect; fourth, it's a super value; and fifth, impressively, it's made in Italy.
product Detail
• Castelli-engineered Espresso Doppio fabric for comfort and high compression fit
• raw-cut leg ending with vertical silicone bands for a smooth, secure finish
• Progetto X Air Seamless seat pad
• reflective tabs on backs of leg for increased visibility
• elastic around 2/3 of waistband; elastic-free in front
• 8.5 inch inseam
fit notes
This is a high compression fit. We recommend ordering up a size for less compression or if between sizes.

product care
Remove your shorts and launder asap for best results as residual sweat may damage the chamois. Wash only in delicate cycle at 86 degrees. Use neutral non-aggressive detergents, keep like colors together and avoid dryers. If you use chamois butter/cream, your garment's ability to wick moisture will be greatly reduced and the durability of your chamois may be compromised. Note: we recommend that you wash new bottoms prior to use.

pocket picker

"i love these shorts. I love the leg band and they fit great for my size (xL) . The padding is comfortable for longer rides. I am just spoiled with pockets. I love that many athletic wear is coming with pockets these days. I just wish these did."

— Maryam I. (4/5)

Perfect

"Fits great"

Very comfortable bike shorts

"Very comfortable shorts for longer rides. Great chamois, and I love the length. For Castelli bike shorts I am large, whereas with Terry bike shorts I am a medium."

— Teri B. (5/5)

Love these shorts!

"Great chamois, with padding that doesn't 'bottom out ' and disappear! Beautiful fabric, just enough compression."

— Ann G. (5/5)

Q&A

Questions & Answers

The Espresso Bike Short is a high-compression short built on Castelli's Espresso Doppio fabric, so it is meant to feel firm, supportive, and snug against the body. That compressive fit is a deliberate performance feature, not a sizing error. Riders who already enjoy a fitted, held-in feel will appreciate how it supports the legs on everyday fitness and moderate-distance rides. If you prefer a relaxed, easy-on short with little to no compression, the Espresso Bike Short will feel tighter than you want.

The Espresso Bike Short suits riders who already know they like a fitted, compressive short and want higher-end Castelli features without stepping up to a bib. Built on Castelli's Espresso Doppio fabric for a high-compression fit, it rewards riders comfortable in performance kit rather than first-timers testing the waters. With its well-padded Progetto X Air Seamless chamois, it handles everyday fitness riding and moderate-distance outings well. If you want firm support and road-ready details in a short package, the Espresso Bike Short is a strong match.

If you're buying your first dedicated cycling short and want the most forgiving, easy-wear fit, the Espresso Bike Short may feel more compressive than ideal. It's a high-compression short built on Castelli's Espresso Doppio fabric, which rewards riders who already know they like a firm, snug feel. Newer riders wanting a relaxed, easy-on short tend to be happier with the Actif Bike Short, which offers a lighter, more forgiving fit for everyday fitness riding and commuting before you move toward compressive performance kit.

The Espresso Bike Short uses raw-cut leg endings with integrated vertical silicone bands on the inside rather than tight elastic gripper bands. That design keeps the leg openings secure without pinching or creating the sausage effect that tighter elastic can cause. For riders who find traditional grippers uncomfortable on the thigh, this construction holds the short in place while distributing the grip more evenly. It's a detail that matters most on regular and longer rides, where leg openings that stay put without digging in keep you comfortable throughout.

The Espresso Bike Short carries a well-padded Progetto X Air Seamless chamois, a higher-grade Castelli seat pad that gives it good duration headroom. It's comfortable across everyday fitness rides and up to moderate-length outings, and reflective tabs support real-world road and commute riding. If your rides are getting consistently longer and you find you want more chamois support for endurance distances, consider stepping into the Performance Short range with the Bella Bike Short or Breakaway Bike Short, which are built for greater time in the saddle.

The Espresso Bike Short is deliberately a short rather than a bib, which is part of what makes it comfortable and easy to get on and off, especially for bathroom stops. It still delivers higher-end Castelli support through its Progetto X Air Seamless chamois and high-compression Espresso Doppio fabric. If you specifically want the over-the-shoulder support and no-waistband feel of bib construction, note that the Espresso Bike Short does not offer that. But if you prefer a short with performance features, this is exactly that combination.

The Espresso Bike Short brings Castelli's higher-end features into a short package: a well-padded Progetto X Air Seamless chamois, raw-cut silicone leg grip, high-compression Espresso Doppio fabric, and reflective tabs for road and commute riding, all made in Italy. Compared with a basic everyday fitness short, it offers firmer support and a more refined chamois. Riders who want performance-level construction and a compressive, held-in fit without committing to a bib find the Espresso Bike Short a compelling step up from entry-level options.

The Espresso Bike Short is a fitted, high-compression short with a performance-kit aesthetic, so it won't deliver a relaxed or casual appearance. If you want a built-in chamois with a more relaxed, everyday look, the Liberty Bike Short or Fixie Bike Short offer a sewn-in chamois in a less fitted silhouette. And if you'd rather have knee-length coverage, the Actif Bike Knicker extends past the thigh. The Espresso Bike Short earns its place when you specifically want compression and performance detailing rather than a laid-back look.

The Espresso Bike Short falls in the 7-to-8-inch length category, giving it standard mid-length short coverage — not ultra-short and not knee-length. That length works well for everyday fitness riding, commuting, and moderate road rides where you want your thighs covered without extra fabric. If you'd prefer coverage that extends over the knee for cooler conditions or added sun protection, the Actif Bike Knicker offers a knicker-length alternative. For most riders wanting a classic cycling short profile, the Espresso Bike Short's mid-length cut hits the mark.
