product care
Remove your shorts and launder asap for best results as residual sweat may damage the chamois. Wash only in delicate cycle at 86 degrees. Use neutral non-aggressive detergents, keep like colors together and avoid dryers. If you use chamois butter/cream, your garment's ability to wick moisture will be greatly reduced and the durability of your chamois may be compromised. Note: we recommend that you wash new bottoms prior to use.

Ruined a perfectly lovely product

"I have several prior years of the soleil short that fit like a glove. I just ordered a few new ones, and the material is totally different (much thinner and less stretchy) and they are tiny compared to the older models. Super disappointed in the changes and will be returning them."

I love the look! But

"I love the look! But it's a little tight in the waist. I was told I could ride in it and see if it 'gives' a little. If not, I can return it."

— kathleen s. (5/5)

Beautiful bike short, form fitting

"Beautiful bike short, form fitting and long enough for my long legs. Had to work to pull them over my hips but they stretched out enough and feel perfect. Haven't biked with them yet but looking forward to it."

— Stefanie C. (5/5)

I needed to return for

"I needed to return for a larger size."

— Kathleen S. (5/5)

Super cute shorts.

"These shorts are so cute, I love that they match my jersey perfectly. I would like a slightly more robust shimmy, but they are fine for a 30 mile ride."

— Suzanna S. (4/5)

Biking shorts

"Super comfortable. I was skeptical at first, because there is much less padding than other bike shorts I own. No riding sores, so I am sold! I cannot wait to purchase more!"

— Kim A. (5/5)

Way to small

"I typically wear a large, but I have lost 35 pounds and the large bottoms I have from this brand are loose. I ordered a medium, and couldn’t even get them up over my hips. I ordered a large and they are snug. If I was in a store, I probably would have gone to XL, but just didn’t want to do another return. And besides? I have worked so hard to lose 35 pounds, who wants clothes that are still XL??? 5-5, 128 pound"

Great shorts

"Really like the lightweight comfort & fit. The long pocket is very helpful & the color, bright & energetic."

— Malika W. (5/5)

Legs are 2 sizes to small

"According to the size chart I needed a medium. I ordered a large and I could only pull them up to mid thigh. If I could get them over my thighs, I suspect that the waist and hips would fit. If your thighs are a size 4 in jeans, the legs would fit, but I suspect everything else would be to big."

— BECKY (1/5)

Sizing has changed

"I have 3 pairs of the Soleil shorts from previous years in size small and they fit great and are very comfortable. I like them for mountain biking with their pockets to carry my phone and snacks. I ordered the small this time and I couldn’t get the shorts over my a**! I haven’t gained weight; they are way smaller and the fabric is different, more compressive. These will be going back. Please bring back the old design with 2 pockets! They’re my favorite!"

Q&A

Questions & Answers

The Soleil Bike Short is built for riders who log miles in warm, sunny conditions. Its Fleet Air Chamois is perforated for ventilation and uses light, smooth microfiber fabric that breathes, while the body fabric carries UPF 50+ sun protection for meaningful coverage on exposed rides. If much of your riding happens in summer heat or under strong sun on moderate to longer road rides, the Soleil Bike Short keeps you cooler and protected where other shorts would leave you overheated or sunburned.

The Soleil Bike Short does not use a silicone leg gripper. Instead it finishes with a silicone-free, double-needle turned-back hem that prioritizes comfort over a locked-down hold. This matters if you rely on a silicone band to keep shorts from riding up, because the Soleil Bike Short won't grip your leg that way. Riders sensitive to the pressure or chafing a gripper can cause often prefer this softer finish, but if a secure leg hold is essential, a short with a silicone band may suit you better.

The Soleil Bike Short features Terry's Fleet Air Chamois, a seamless, Italian-made pad with 4-way stretch Elastic Interface Technology, multi-level foam padding, and perforations for airflow. Its soft-wing construction reduces bulk at the inner thigh to avoid chafing. This is a performance-grade chamois suited to moderate and longer rides, especially in warm weather. The Soleil Bike Short earns its place when you want breathable, saddle-ready comfort for regular road rides without stepping up to a maximum-endurance pad.

The Soleil Bike Short offers moderate compression — supportive without being aggressive. Its 6-panel fit and 78% recycled nylon, 22% spandex body give muscular support that holds you comfortably without the tight squeeze of race-level compression. This makes the Soleil Bike Short a good middle ground for riders who want real support on moderate to longer road rides but don't want the firm grip of a competition short. If you specifically want maximum race-level compression, a more aggressive performance short would serve you better.

The Soleil Bike Short is designed around comfort for riders who feel pressure points and chafing keenly. It uses a 2-inch elastic-free comfort waistband that sits softly without digging in, flat seam construction to minimize rubbing, and a silicone-free leg hem that stays gentle against the skin. The Fleet Air Chamois adds soft-wing construction to reduce bulk at the inner thigh. Together these features reflect Terry's comfort-first philosophy, making the Soleil Bike Short a strong pick when a snug waistband or grippy hem has bothered you before.

If your rides are getting longer or you've started noticing saddle discomfort, the Soleil Bike Short is a natural step up. Its Fleet Air Chamois uses Elastic Interface Technology with multi-level foam and seamless, soft-wing construction suited to more time in the saddle than a lighter fitness pad supports. Combined with moderate compression and warm-weather breathability, the Soleil Bike Short bridges the gap for riders ready for more support. Padding varies by product, so compare the specific chamois in whatever fitness short you're currently riding.

The Soleil Bike Short is built for moderate to longer road rides in warm weather, so a few riders are better served elsewhere. If you regularly ride very long endurance or multi-day distances, the higher-mileage Bella Max Bike Short or Long Haul Bike Short offer more support. If most of your riding is gravel or mixed terrain, consider the Gravel Bike Short or Breakaway Bike Short. And if you want lighter, more casual everyday support, the Actif Bike Short fits that use better than the performance-oriented Soleil Bike Short.

The Soleil Bike Short has an 8.5-inch inseam, placing it in the 7-to-8-inch length category as a standard-length short. Its fabric carries UPF 50+ protection, giving meaningful sun coverage across the thigh on exposed rides — particularly valuable on long, sunny road days. The leg finishes with an elastic-free, silicone-free turned-back hem that prioritizes comfort over a locked-down grip. If you want solid everyday coverage with real sun protection built in, the Soleil Bike Short delivers it comfortably.

The Soleil Bike Short is a waist short with a 2-inch elastic-free comfort waistband, which many riders find comfortable and convenient for quick stops. If you specifically prefer bib construction — for its no-slip hold and even pressure distribution over longer rides — the Madame X Bib Short pairs similar performance-grade comfort with a bib design. Both live in Terry's Performance Short range, so the choice comes down to whether you want a waistband or shoulder straps. For warm-weather waist-short riders, the Soleil Bike Short is well suited.
