Engineered with an innovative, four-compartment construction, it combines a glove's dexterity benefits with the warmth of a mitten. The thumbs, index and middle fingers are free for fine motor actions like breaking and shifting, while the ring and pinkie fingers are enclosed in a mini-mitten for better heat retention. It features a wind-and-water resistant shell fabric paired with Primaloft insulation and a Merino-wool blend liner for moisture control and odor-free comfort. The Sturmfist 4 is finished with a drawstring cuff closure for easy on/off and a naturally tactile, leather palm.

Very disappointing - they don't keep your hands warm

"I bought these gloves because they were described "as warm as you'll ever need on a bike." I have worn these gloves several times in temperatures ranging from +5C to +10C, and my fingers were cold each time. The first time I wore them, the temperature was 10C, and we rode for about 2 hours. When we got home, my fingers were so cold I could barely operate the brakes. On the next ride, 5C, I added liners with no improvement. After 1 hour, my fingers were like ice, and I had difficulty operating the brakes again. The final time I used them (+5C), I used a thicker liner, but the result was the same - my hands were uncomfortably cold after 20 minutes. I am deeply disappointed after paying $130 for a product that doesn't meet the specifications that enticed me to purchase these gloves. Sadly, you must buy them to realize there is no truth in advertising."

Q&A

Questions & Answers

The Sturmfist 4 Cycling Gloves are built for genuinely frigid riding, positioned as your best companion when temperatures have plunged below 15 degrees Fahrenheit. They use Primaloft insulation and a Merino-wool blend liner for warmth and moisture control, with a wind-and-water resistant shell to block the elements. If most of your cold riding happens in typical winter temperatures rather than deep cold, a lighter option may serve you better, but for the coldest rides the Sturmfist 4 is engineered to keep hands warm when few other gloves can.

The Sturmfist 4 Cycling Gloves are neither exactly — they use a four-compartment lobster-style design. The thumb, index, and middle fingers are separated for fine motor control, while the ring and pinkie fingers are grouped together in a mini-mitten for better heat retention. This is a deliberate trade: you give up full independent finger movement in exchange for significantly more warmth. If you want every finger to move independently, this lobster construction may feel unfamiliar, so it helps to know the design before you buy.

Yes. The Sturmfist 4 Cycling Gloves are designed so the thumb, index, and middle fingers stay free for fine motor actions like braking and shifting, while only the ring and pinkie fingers are enclosed together in a mini-mitten for warmth. The fingers are pre-curved for a natural hand position on the handlebars, and the thumb and index finger are touchscreen compatible. This lets you keep meaningful control of your bike in deep cold without sacrificing the heat retention a full mitten provides.

The Sturmfist 4 Cycling Gloves pair a wind-and-water resistant shell fabric with a water-resistant leather palm that also provides a sure grip. A large drawstring cuff seals over your jacket sleeve to help block wind and moisture at the wrist, a common gap where cold air sneaks in. Together these features are built to fend off the elements at their coldest. For sustained heavy rain rather than cold and wind, a fully waterproof glove such as the Gore C5 GTX Infinium Bike Glove would be the stronger choice.

The Sturmfist 4 Cycling Gloves finish with a naturally tactile, water-resistant leather palm. For riders in deep cold, this matters because grip can suffer as gloves get bulkier and conditions turn wet. The leather palm gives a sure, durable hold on the handlebars and resists moisture, so you keep confident control even when temperatures drop well below freezing. If grip and long-term palm durability are priorities for your coldest rides, the leather construction is one of the reasons to choose the Sturmfist 4.

Possibly. The Sturmfist 4 Cycling Gloves are engineered for genuinely frigid conditions below 15 degrees Fahrenheit, so for mild or moderate cold they can be more warmth than you need, and the lobster compartment design trades away some finger independence. If your riding is cool rather than deep cold, a lighter mitt like the Windshear Bike Lobster Mitts or a standard full-finger glove will feel more natural. The Sturmfist 4 earns its place when the temperature truly plunges and warmth becomes the deciding factor.

It depends on what you value most in deep cold. The Sturmfist 4 Cycling Gloves use a four-compartment lobster design that groups the ring and pinkie fingers for extra warmth, which is ideal if maximum heat retention matters more than independent finger movement. If you prefer full five-finger dexterity in every finger while still riding in cold, wet conditions, the Gore C5 GTX Infinium Bike Glove is the better fit. Choose the Sturmfist 4 when you want mitten-level warmth without giving up braking and shifting control.

The Sturmfist 4 Cycling Gloves are lined with a Merino-wool blend that handles moisture control and stays odor-free over repeated wear. On long cold rides, hands still perspire inside insulated gloves, and trapped dampness can make cold worse. The Merino-wool blend liner wicks that moisture while the Primaloft insulation retains warmth, so your hands stay drier and more comfortable through sustained time in the saddle. This combination is part of what makes the Sturmfist 4 suited to extended riding in deep cold.
