Description

When not in action on your bike, the Venture gracefully shifts into a great hiking, pickleball-playing, international travel short. Years of fit refinement on other predecessors led us here. It’s always tricky with a fitted waist and woven fabric but we’ve engineered a low profile adjustment system, applied Terry shaping to accommodate a cyclist’s unique muscle structure, finessed the length and made it in two different fits (regular or relaxed). Next, we loaded it up with nicely organized pockets and added a full gusset through the crotch to avoid seam chafing.

Comes with our Universal liner for all around versatility.

Reviews

I sent mediums back and

"I sent mediums back and bought small size. I’m 5’8” 135 lbs. the length is perfect. The mediums were baggy around hips even after adjusting the waist size which is a good design. The smalls fit my figure well but I have the waist on the biggest hook. And will not be comfortable any tighter. The fabric is nice and dark color is good. Overall I will get a lot of wear out of them."

Nice!

"Long, loose, & comfy for both road and mountain biking. And navy blue is hard to find!"

— Anne H. (5/5)

Missing a pocket!

"I have several pairs of Metro shorts that are now discontinued. These are the closest alternative. Be aware, these in a "regular" are a little shorter in the rise than the Metros. But mostly, I am mourning the loss of the magnetic closure phone pocket - a unique and essential feature of the Metro shorts. These shorts are long enough to accomodate a pocket on both legs - please bring it back! In the meantime, I will not completely retire my trusty frayed and faded Metro shorts."

Love these shorts

"These are the best fitting shorts I've ever purchased from Terry! I waited for the price to drop based on the reviews, so I bought two- one in each color - and it's a shame, because Terry deserves full price for these shorts! I am 5' 8-1/2" and weigh 136 pounds - tall and slender- and I wear a size medium, which fits perfectly. I did not have to tighten the cinches on the sides. I love the colors and the way they look on me. Even with the liner on, they fit perfectly."

Great shorts but waistband is not adjustable

"I love the color (dark blue), quality and style of these bike shorts. Having read the reviews, I thought about sizing down, but I'm glad I didn't. My usual size (S) fits well, but the outer shorts are a bit loose in the waistband, which make them less comfortable to wear (especially without the liner shorts). I have the Metro shorts as well, and always wear them with a belt. The picture of the Venture short is a bit misleading: it looks like the waistband was adjustable (velcro fastener or buckle), but unfortunately it's only decorative (with an elastic band on the back). The "buckles" cannot be opened, so there is no possibility to replace the elastic band or use a belt. Please prioritize practicability in the design of future models of these shorts."

Didn’t work for me

"I ordered a medium based on my measurements and these shorts seemed generously sized. Definitely too long for me and just big all around. I had to return them. I’m 5’5”, 120 lbs."

— Rebecca R. (3/5)

A great bike short

"I love these bike shorts. They are lightweight, comfortable, made well and fit great. They also have many pockets that are hard to find in ladies bike shorts. I will also use them, without the pad, as regular shorts."

— Vicki B. (5/5)

Nice quality shorts

"The material and length are great. The padding is not very thick, I may wear different liners for longer rides."

— Elizabeth H. (5/5)

Great fabric!

"Love these shorts the fabric is wonderful but the fit is a little small in the waist."

— Laurie O. (4/5)

Need to make size charts accurate.

"Size chart is same for relaxed and regular fit. Ordered xl relaxed fit as that’s what I wear in metro but this one was baggy. Ordered regular hope it fits better."

Q&A

Questions & Answers

The Venture Bike Short Regular w. Liner is classified as a bundled-liner short, and its feature detail lists an included, unattached Universal Liner with Urban chamois and a 6.5 inch liner inseam. Worth noting: the product description text on this record separately states it is sold without a padded liner, which appears to be an internal inconsistency. Because this matters directly to whether you can ride in it out of the box, confirm the current liner inclusion before purchasing so you know whether you need to add a separate liner for cycling use.

The Venture Bike Short Regular w. Liner is built for riders who want one short that does more than cycle. It's designed to shift gracefully into hiking, pickleball, and international travel use when you're off the bike. Because the liner is unattached, you can ride with it in place and remove it for non-cycling activities, so the outer short works as everyday wear. If most of your days blend riding with walking, travel, or sport, the Venture Bike Short earns its place as a versatile single piece rather than a cycling-only garment.

The Venture Bike Short Regular w. Liner is for riders who want full cycling functionality without looking like they're wearing kit. Terry engineered a low-profile waist adjustment system and applied women's-specific shaping to accommodate a cyclist's muscle structure, all in a woven baggy short rather than fitted lycra. This matters if traditional cycling apparel makes you self-conscious or doesn't match where you ride. The Venture Bike Short lets you blend in off the bike while still getting purpose-built fit refinement underneath.

The Venture Bike Short comes in two fits, and the choice depends on how much room you want through the hip and thigh. The Venture Bike Short Regular w. Liner is the more fitted cut, with an 11.5 inch outer-short inseam and Terry shaping for a cyclist's muscle structure. If you prefer extra room through the hip and thigh for a looser, more casual feel, the Venture Bike Short (Relaxed Fit) is the better match. Riders who like a trimmer silhouette that still reads as casual tend to prefer the Regular.

The Venture Bike Short Regular w. Liner suits riders who want a more tailored cut through the hip and thigh in a short that also works off the bike. If you like a trimmer outer short that still transitions into hiking, travel, and casual wear, the Regular is a strong match. Riders who want more room, a looser drape, or extra ease through the hip and thigh should instead look at the Venture Bike Short (Relaxed Fit), which keeps the same versatile Venture design in a roomier silhouette.

The Venture Bike Short Regular w. Liner ships with a Universal Liner using the Urban chamois, which is well-suited to regular rides, commuting, and mixed on-and-off-bike days. If your riding is shifting toward longer endurance days where you want more cushioned, higher-grade padding, a casual baggy liner will reach its limit. Riders doing harder or longer rides are better served by a fitted Performance short such as the Bella Bike Short or the Breakaway Bike Short, both built around more supportive chamois for extended time in the saddle.

The Venture Bike Short Regular w. Liner uses an unattached Universal Liner rather than a sewn-in pad, which suits riders who find a fully built-in chamois too bulky or who want to wear the outer short alone off the bike. Because the liner comes out, the Venture works for hiking, travel, and pickleball as readily as for riding. If you'd rather never manage a separate liner, a sewn-in option like the Liberty Bike Short or Fixie Bike Short keeps everything integrated in one piece.

The Venture Bike Short Regular w. Liner is built for riders who want storage and comfort in a casual short. It has two front hand pockets plus a zippered leg pocket on the left leg, so you can secure keys, a phone, or ride essentials whether you're cycling, hiking, or traveling. It also uses a full-length crotch gusset for better seam placement through the key contact zone, which reduces chafing. These details matter on longer days in the saddle and make the Venture practical across both riding and everyday use.

The Venture Bike Short Regular w. Liner works well for riders making their first move into cycling apparel who aren't comfortable with fitted lycra. It delivers cycling functionality in a woven baggy short that reads as everyday clothing, with Terry shaping refined over years for a cyclist's fit. Because the Universal Liner is removable and the short transitions into hiking and travel, it's an easy entry point. If you later decide you want a fitted everyday cycling short, the Actif Bike Short in Terry's Fitness range is a natural next step.
