fit notes
If in between sizes, size up.

product care
Remove your shorts and launder asap for best results as residual sweat may damage the chamois. Wash only in delicate cycle at 86 degrees. Use neutral non-aggressive detergents, keep like colors together and avoid dryers. If you use chamois butter/cream, your garment's ability to wick moisture will be greatly reduced and the durability of your chamois may be compromised. Note: we recommend that you wash new bottoms prior to use.

Reviews

Nice shorts

"I’ve worn these twice now and they were quite comfortable. My first ride was 50 miles and I had no problems with the shorts. I like the zipper pocket too which works well for a car key or thin wallet. There is also a mesh pocket. They are on the stretchy side for bike shorts but that seemed to work well so far. I bought the large and am 5’6” 150 lbs."

— Elizabeth A. (5/5)

disappointing

"I like the shorts and they fit to size but they have a horrible industrial oil smell. I have had to use vinegar, multiple washes and there still is a horrible industrial oil smell. I haven't used them yet. . . because I can't get past the industrial oil smell."

— Michelle I. (2/5)

Underwhelmed for Endurance

"I bought these shorts because padding was suggested for longer rides. Very ☹️ disappointed. Euro shorts much better/comfortable padding/chamois for me. The pockets are great. The material dries fast! They failed the job for me. I have 159$ shorts I can’t wear/Its a bummer. I am glad I bought another pair of Euros shorts"

— Shelley K. (3/5)

Puckered knicks

"I'm a bit disappointed because the rear leg area is quite puckered as shown in the attached photos"

— Mary C. (3/5)

Pockets

"Terry brand are now my favorite bike shorts. I bike a lot and was always in pain. . . both bone and tissue. These shorts are wonderful. So happy I found them. They are very comfortable, true to size and have pockets for my phone when walking around off my bike."

— Susan L. (5/5)

My favorite bike shorts!

"These shorts are sooo comfy. The waistband stays put and even across my stomach. The stretchy pocket is great for stashing sunglasses or small snacks. The fabric is thick but soft. I love them!"

— Melora P. (5/5)

This was my first Terry

"This was my first Terry shorts. I ordered my usual size M and they were so big and baggy! The elastic at the bottom of the legs was loose and the material by my thighs was so baggy. According to their size chart I’m a medium, but that is not the case with these shorts. Had to return them."

— Cynthia S. (1/5)

Poorly constructed

"Fabric puckered where it was sown to the padding. Legs were baggy. The fit was terrible. Every other thing I have bought in the past have been good. Returned this item. It going to cost me $9 to return it"

— Terri K. (5/5)

Some great features but maybe not for petite riders

"I have been wearing Wayfarers for a few years and love the pockets and length. I was eager to try the Grand Touring shorts as some compression would be nice. I've worn them three times, each for about 25 miles and have two complaints. The rise is too high for me as I am only 5' tall. (I will be altering it to lower them by about 1. 5 inches. ) The bigger problem is that the chamois is placed too far forward. It bunches up along my lower abdomen and does not cover my (not too large!) rear. I am in the process of removing the chamois and moving it to a better position. The Wayfarer chamois is also place too far forward but it does cover me without bunching up. I like the compression and the pockets although I think the open pockets on the Wayfarers are better. I think they will be good for longer rides when my alterations are complete."

— Maureen S. (3/5)

Love the fabric!

"I usually wear the grand touring shorts but tried the Caicos and love them! The fabric is so light and the compression is the real deal. I’d size up if you don’t want the shorts too snug. I usually wear XL so I ordered these in same size. They are snug but feel good. Also, since the fabric is this and silky, they’re perfect for wearing under gravel shorts."

Q&A

Questions & Answers

The Grand Touring Bike Short is built specifically for serious riders who spend significant time in the saddle, whether on tours or gravel days. Its 8.5 inch inseam gives extended saddle contact, and its higher-rise, contoured rear fit suits the varied positions gravel riding demands. Paired with Terry's most padded touring chamois, it's designed for riders whose main concern is fatigue accumulating over long hours. If most of your riding involves endurance distance or back-to-back days, the Grand Touring Bike Short is built for exactly that.

The Grand Touring Bike Short carries Terry's Flex Air Tour chamois, the highest-padding touring option in the line, with roughly 14 percent more foam than the standard Flex Air chamois. The multi-level foam is perforated for breathability, and the soft wing construction reduces bulk at the inner thigh to prevent chafing. This is a serious endurance pad, made in Italy, designed for riders whose priority is maximum cushioning over distance. If you want a light or minimal-bulk chamois, the Grand Touring Bike Short will feel like more padding than you need.

The Grand Touring Bike Short is less ideal if most of your riding is short, casual fitness rides with no endurance component. Its Flex Air Tour chamois carries the highest padding in the line, which rewards long hours but can feel like more than you need on quick spins. Riders focused on shorter fitness outings tend to prefer the Actif Bike Short, which offers a lighter pad suited to that use. If you rarely log long days in the saddle, the Grand Touring Bike Short's touring-grade cushioning won't earn its place.

The Grand Touring Bike Short offers two dedicated leg pockets, giving touring riders more on-bike storage than a typical fitness short. A mesh leg pocket on the right allows quick, easy access to small items, while a separate zippered leg pocket provides extra security and is sized for a smartphone. For long days out where you want essentials within reach and a phone held safely, these touring pockets are a practical reason riders choose the Grand Touring Bike Short over shorts without storage.

The Grand Touring Bike Short comes in a single fixed 8.5 inch inseam, which gives extended saddle contact for long days. If you want the same level of touring chamois support but prefer a shorter or longer leg, consider the Touring Bike Short, which offers the same touring-grade comfort across Short, Regular, and Long inseam options including 5 inch and 10 inch lengths. Riders who are particular about leg length often find the Touring Bike Short line the better match, while the Grand Touring Bike Short suits those happy with its 8.5 inch length.

The Grand Touring Bike Short is designed around all-day comfort details that reduce irritation over long hours. The front waist uses an innovative bonded, elastic-free construction that effectively removes the waistband in the bike position, while a 2 inch fold-over leg band with interior silicone grip holds the short gently in place rather than restricting the leg. A sculpted 8-panel fit with flat seam construction helps prevent chafing. Together these features support long stretches in the saddle, which is what the Grand Touring Bike Short is made for.

The Grand Touring Bike Short is made from Polartec's tri-blended Powerstretch fabric, which is called out specifically for drying quickly. On long tours or gravel days where you may sweat heavily or ride through unexpected weather, fast-drying fabric keeps the short from staying damp and uncomfortable for hours. The chamois also uses light, channeled antimicrobial microfiber to enhance moisture transfer. For riders logging extended saddle time who want to stay comfortable through changing conditions, this moisture management is a meaningful part of what the Grand Touring Bike Short offers.

The decision comes down to whether you want touring-specific features. The Grand Touring Bike Short pairs the highest-padding Flex Air Tour chamois with dedicated leg pockets and all-day comfort construction for riders logging serious saddle time on tours and gravel. If you want high performance without touring-specific extras like the leg pockets and maximum-foam chamois, the Bella Max Bike Short is worth considering instead. Riders prioritizing fatigue reduction over long days tend to prefer the Grand Touring Bike Short, while those chasing performance in a leaner package lean toward the Bella Max.

The Grand Touring Bike Short suits any rider spending extended periods in the saddle, not just dedicated bike tourers. Century rides, long gravel days, and any riding where fatigue accumulates over hours all benefit from its Flex Air Tour chamois and 8.5 inch inseam built for extended comfort. You don't need to be loading up for a multi-day trip to make good use of it. If your rides have grown long enough that your current short no longer holds up across the distance, the Grand Touring Bike Short is designed for that moment.
