Reviews

Stylish Bolero

"I love the bolero. It’s cute. It is easy to fold for the pockets when not needed. I have a few plus a black thermal…very handy."

— Mary C. (5/5)

Great bolero. I'm going to

"Great bolero. I'm going to use cycling and with formal dresses in Spain!"

— Lindy E. (5/5)

Sun protection that is comfortable and stylish

"Love this sun protection for arms that doesn't add warmth, is comfortable and looks good. What we must have for summer cycling!"

— Zara B. (5/5)

Positive review with 2 recommendations for spectacular improvement!

"Love the service when I called with a question prior to purchase, delivery time, quality of fabric and color's For more satisfaction I recommend: 1) offer sizes S, M, and L 2) consider stretchier fabric, so can order tighter for less wind resistance. ( the size S/M cut under my arm pits a bit, but the size M/L was baggy in the arms, causing wind resistance and less sleek look. I am still glad that I bought them! Now I can wear my no sleeve snd short sleeve jerseys and get the sun protection and visibility from the bright colors!"

— Sharon C. (4/5)

Bought 4 !

"Love these versatile sleeves."

— Lisa G. (5/5)

Great for any activities outdoor

"I ordered the S/M and it was a bit tight. I'm dress size 4 so I exchanged it for L-XL and it is much better. I wear these hiking or walking and am asked where I got it all the time. Please bring back the white!"

— Christina S. (5/5)

Way too small

"I love the concept of the bolero, A medium was way too small and I'm very petite 5'2" and 115 lbs. I also don't appreciate being charged shipping for the return when many companies don't. I don't think I'll order from Terry again. Too many other options out there"

— Minner, J. (2/5)

Flexible protection, high visibility

"At 5'3, 132 lbs, large-chested and broad shouldered, I struggled to choose the right size for this bolero. I chose S/M and it's a bit tight over and around the front of my shoulders. It certainly won't billow or flap. Otherwise, arms not too tight, it's not too tight across the back, it's stretchy, and the hot pink is very visible, as desired. Note that if you're taller and longer armed than me, the arms might not reach your gloves. Terry should consider making this bolero with longer arms. The fabric is as described (slightly heavier than Terry's lightest summer weight jersey fabric) and I anticipate it will serve the purpose of sun protection and a bit more warmth when starting a ride."

— Jan (5/5)

not quite right

"The S/M really is a Medium and hence the arms are big and flappy in the wind. I found out after I cut the tag and wore it on a ride."

— Cat K. (3/5)

Great design but hot for summer

"I am easily swatting during our bike rides so I postpone to use them. But later on I made alteration with big mesh on the back and shoulders. Now it is the protection from the cold morning and hot sunny day! Couple of extra hours to sew but it is worthwhile."

— Tatyana M. (5/5)

Q&A

Questions & Answers

The Bolero Light is designed specifically as a warm-up for sleeveless and short-sleeve jerseys. Its single-piece construction covers the arms and shoulders your jersey leaves bare, giving you a cohesive layer rather than two separate arm sleeves. If you ride in warmer-weather jerseys but want a little extra warmth on cool mornings or coverage against the sun, the Bolero Light slips right over what you already wear and complements that jersey style directly.

The Bolero Light carries UPF 50+ sun protection, making it well suited to spring and summer riders who want to shield their arms and shoulders from exposure. If you ride in sleeveless or short-sleeve jerseys and find your arms taking the brunt of long daylight hours, the Bolero Light adds reliable coverage without heavy fabric. It's built as a warm-weather sun layer, so it keeps you protected through the sunnier months rather than trapping heat.

The Bolero Light is positioned for spring and summer riding, built around UPF 50+ sun protection and a light single-piece construction rather than cold-weather insulation. It earns its place as a warm-up on cool mornings and a sun layer through the warmer months. If you need genuine cold-weather arm warmth for chilly rides, the Bolero Light isn't the right tool for that job, and you'd be better served by an insulating option like the DeFeet SL Armskins.

The Bolero Light is a single-piece layer that covers both arms and your shoulders at once, designed to pair with sleeveless and short-sleeve jerseys. Standalone arm sleeves like UPF 50+ arm sleeves are two separate pieces you can roll down and stow in a pocket when the day warms up. If you want the flexibility to remove warmth or protection mid-ride without stopping to take off a full layer, standalone arm sleeves may suit you better than the Bolero Light.

The Bolero Light is best for women who ride in sleeveless or short-sleeve jerseys through spring and summer and want a warm-up or sun layer that works with that jersey style. Its semi-fitted cut and ultra-soft thread keep it comfortable against the skin over regular rides, and the UPF 50+ fabric handles sun exposure. Riders who want to be seen as well as protected can choose from high-visibility color options, making the Bolero Light a practical layer for bright daylight hours.

The Bolero Light has a semi-fitted cut, so it sits close to the body without compressing, layering cleanly over sleeveless and short-sleeve jerseys. The ultra-soft thread keeps it comfortable against the skin on the arms and shoulders, which matters when you're wearing it for hours in warm weather. If you're between sizes or unsure how it should sit, Terry's fit and sizing guides can help you choose, since a layering piece like the Bolero Light works best when it drapes smoothly over your jersey.

The Bolero Light is offered in high-visibility color options for riders who want to be seen as well as sun-protected. Because it covers your arms and shoulders, the Bolero Light puts bright color where it's most noticeable to traffic, which is valuable if you ride on roads or in lower-light conditions during spring and summer. Choosing a high-visibility version turns a sun layer into a safety layer, adding presence on the road alongside its UPF 50+ protection.

Choose something other than the Bolero Light when your need is cold-weather warmth rather than warm-weather sun protection. The Bolero Light is a light spring and summer layer built around UPF 50+ coverage, so riders facing genuinely cold rides should look to an insulating option like the DeFeet SL Armskins. And if you want pieces you can roll down and stow mid-ride, standalone UPF 50+ arm sleeves give you that flexibility, whereas the Bolero Light is a single-piece layer you wear on or off.
