Description
The Power Bike Short gets its name from the high elastane content of the special fabric we've sourced from Italy. It has more compression than our other bike shorts and is slightly longer so it supports the entire hamstring and quadricep muscles. Along with a UPF 50+ rating, it also has a wide v-front waistband designed to provide extra core support. The fit is tighter but the result is enhanced support and reduced muscle fatigue. The Power Short is also outfitted with a deep pocket on the right leg and the latest in soft, laser-cut leg bands that hold securely without digging or pinching. It comes with Terry's best Flex Air Chamois with soft wing construction for the ideal balance of padding, ventilation and low bulk.

Proudly designed and sewn in the USA at a green energy-certified facility, supporting local jobs and the highest standards in quality and fit.

fit notes
Note that this is a high compression fit and we suggest sizing up if you prefer lighter compression.
product care
Remove your shorts and launder asap for best results as residual sweat may damage the chamois. Wash only in delicate cycle at 86 degrees. Use neutral non-aggressive detergents, keep like colors together and avoid dryers. If you use chamois butter/cream, your garment's ability to wick moisture will be greatly reduced and the durability of your chamois may be compromised. Note: we recommend that you wash new bottoms prior to use.

Reviews

Too small

"Returned as the xl was too small. My touring shorts are xl for a perfect fit. If shorts run small you should announce or state it! Here's hoping the xxl will do the trick. Thanks Janis Hazlett"

— Janis H. (5/5)

Not for me

"I ordered a M based on reviews even though I am a S typically in Terry bike shorts. They were way too tight. That and the chamois was so thin I wasn’t sure it would stand up to 50+ mile bike rides which is what I was buying them for. Sent them back."

— Vanessa H. (1/5)

Flex Air Chamois plus the fit lead to perfection

"Today was the first ride with these shorts and WOWSA! I have been riding for 3 years now and I am always thinking about how my bum and lady parts hurt. Not today. All I could think about was how perfect the fit was and how COMFORTABLE I was. For the FIRST TIME! I am so pleased with all the thought and design that goes into each and every piece of clothing at Terry. Thank you for taking my ride to the next level."

— Angela S. (5/5)

👍

"i like these shorts - compression with a lighter weight fabric - i really like the high waist and waistband that doesn’t cut across my belly - for the most part the chamois is good although it could use a slight bit of padding on the wings - i’m hoping Terry has plans to make “power” knickers!"

— Julie S. (4/5)

Power Bike Short Delivers!

"Just got back from a 4-day bike tour in Louisiana. Loved the Power Bike short. Comfortable- even though I hadn’t worn them before! LOVED the pocket on one side and rode with my IPhone in the pocket all day- no problems!"

— Francine R. (5/5)

Perfect fit and performance.

"These are the best made and most comfortable bike shorts I've ever worn and over 40 years I've worn a few. Leg bands keep them in place but don't pinch or feel tight. The padding is perfect thickness and dimensions. I love the high waist in back and the thigh pocket. They wash well and dry in about a day hung on a hanger in the house. They are certainly not cheap but I think they will last virtually forever with good care. With many bike shorts at some point in the ride you think about your shorts and something 'not right'. I just ride and needn't think about adjusting the shorts."

— Mindy T. (5/5)

Power Short didn't fit me

"I can't write a real review because I was unable to wear the power short. I ordered a small, which is what usually fits me in Terry items. I could not get them on at all. The same order contained a spinnaker capri, also size small, and they fit just fine. I am 5'5" and weigh around 127."

— Martha L. (3/5)

Way to tight

"These were so tight and compressive I couldn't even pull them up. I ordered a medium, I'm 5'2' and 130 lbs. they should have fit me. I sent them back"

— Debra W. (1/5)

My favorite bike shorts!

"These are my favorite bike shorts. After gaining 12 lbs. I purchased size large. I had size medium. I discovered they both fit well. I love the padding, waistband support as well as the leg band, but most of all the length!"

— Andrea V. (5/5)

Run small

"The shorts looked great but unfortunately they were too small. I have another Terry Shorts in a small size that fit perfectly, if not a little loose. I could not get these shorts over my thighs."

— Caroline A. (3/5)

Q&A

Questions & Answers

The Power Bike Short is Terry's highest-compression, tightest-fitting short in its own words. It gets its name from the high-elastane Italian fabric Terry sources specifically for it, which delivers more compression than any other Terry bike short. The fit is deliberately snug, and that tightness is the point: it maximizes muscle support and reduces fatigue over longer or harder efforts. Riders who want a locked-in, supportive feel on the saddle tend to appreciate what the Power Bike Short does for their legs on demanding rides.

The Power Bike Short is built for riders who want Terry's highest compression level for muscle support and a snug, locked-in fit. The high-elastane Italian fabric delivers more compression than Terry's other shorts, reducing muscle fatigue over longer or more intense rides. Its slightly longer 10 inch inseam extends support across the full hamstring and quad, and the UPF 50+ rating adds protection for sunny, longer rides. If you ride hard, ride far, and want your short working with your muscles, the Power Bike Short earns its place.

If most of your riding favors a relaxed, moderate-compression feel, the Power Bike Short may feel tighter than you'd like. In Terry's own words, it's their highest-compression, tightest-fitting short, with a deliberately snug fit built for muscle support rather than ease. Riders sensitive to very compressive garments tend to be happier with the Bike Bermuda Short, which offers a looser, more forgiving fit while still providing solid saddle comfort. Choose the Power Bike Short only if that locked-in sensation is something you actively want.

The Power Bike Short uses a longer 10 inch inseam so the fabric supports the entire hamstring and quadricep, not just the upper thigh. For riders putting in longer or harder efforts, that extended coverage carries the short's high-compression support further down the leg, which helps reduce muscle fatigue over distance. It also means less leg-band movement and more even pressure through pedaling. Riders who find standard-length shorts stop short of where they want support tend to appreciate the fuller coverage of the Power Bike Short.

The Power Bike Short pairs a wide v-front waistband with 1 1/2 inch silicone laser-cut leg bands to match its higher-compression intent. The v-front waistband adds core support and sits comfortably without digging, while the laser-cut leg bands hold securely against the skin and stay in place while pedaling, without pinching. Together these details keep the snug fit feeling supportive rather than restrictive, which matters most on the longer, harder rides where the Power Bike Short is designed to perform.

Yes, the Power Bike Short carries a UPF 50+ rating, which blocks the vast majority of UV rays reaching your skin. For riders doing longer rides in open, sunny conditions, that built-in protection matters because your legs are exposed for hours at a time. Combined with its longer 10 inch inseam, the Power Bike Short covers and protects more of the hamstring and quad than a standard-length short, making it a practical choice when your routes keep you in direct sun.

The Power Bike Short comes with Terry's Flex Air Chamois, a women's-specific, seamless chamois built with 4-way stretch Elastic Interface Technology for freedom of movement on the saddle. Its multi-level foam padding is perforated for breathability, the microfiber fabric is antimicrobial and moves moisture away, and soft wing construction reduces bulk at the inner thigh to avoid chafing. This balance of padding, ventilation and low bulk complements the short's high-compression fit, so support comes from both the fabric and the chamois working together.

Yes, the Power Bike Short includes a deep, perforated pocket on the right leg that easily fits a smartphone. The pocket is positioned on the thigh so it sits securely while you pedal, which is useful on longer rides where you want your phone accessible without a jersey pocket or extra bag. Combined with the UPF 50+ rating and extended 10 inch inseam, the Power Bike Short is practical for longer days out where you need both coverage and somewhere to stash essentials.

The Power Bike Short is built around compression and muscle support, pairing its high-elastane fabric with Terry's Flex Air Chamois for a balance of padding and breathability. If your priority is maximum saddle cushioning for centuries, touring, or long endurance days, you may want Terry's most cushioned option instead. The Long Haul Bike Short is designed for that kind of all-day comfort, prioritizing chamois support over the locked-in compression that defines the Power Bike Short. Match the short to whether your goal is leg support or saddle cushioning.
